Hepatitis A Total (IgM - IgG) Test
SKU
HEP-A-TOTAL
Known As: Antibody to Hepatitis A-Anti-HAV Total-HAVab Total
Description: Through a blood sample, the Hepatitis A Total test measures both the IgM and IgG forms of the antibody, but differentiation is not possible. A positive result may imply an infection to Hepatitis A OR vaccination immunity. Turnaround time is typically 1 business day.
Incubation Period: The incubation period for Hepatitis IgM antibodies usually appears 3 to 4 weeks after an initial exposure and return to normal after about 8 weeks. The IgG antibodies may begin to develop 2 weeks after the IgM antibodies increase to a high level. IgG antibodies may persist indefinitely.
Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of Hepatitis A to others.
Requirements: This is a blood test. No special requirements for testing.
