HIV-1 Western Blot Test

SKU HIV-1-WESTERN
Known As: HIV-1 Antibody Confirmation, Western Blot

Description: Typically, the Western Blot HIV-1 test is used as a confirmatory test after an HIV-1 Abs test has a positive result. The Western BLOT HIV-1 test looks for many different types of HIV antigen groups which are represented as “bands” in the result. To have a positive HIV-1 Western Blot result, specific bands must be present. Bands can be listed as present but may not be the ones listed as fitting the “positive results” criteria. It is not recommended to use the Western Blot test as an initial screening test because some individuals may be HIV-1 negative but show the presence of bands that do not fit the “positive results” criteria. Turnaround time is typically 1-3 business days.

Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.

Requirements: This is a blood test. No special requirements for testing.
