Description: HIV-2 antibodies by EIA. This is a different strain of HIV that was found in higher concentrations in West Africa and is now spreading to different parts of the world. Turnaround time is typically 1-3 business days.
Incubation Period: Antibodies for HIV can appear as early as a few weeks after being infected with the HIV-2 virus. HIV-2 antibodies may take more than 6 months to be detectible.
Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.
