Repeat HIV-1 PCR Test

Known As: (human immunodeficiency virus-HIV Proviral DNA-PCR amplification)

Description: This is the same test as the HIV-1 PCR test listed above. The REPEAT HIV-1 PCR is for our clients that have previously ordered an HIV-1 PCR test with Request A Test and wish to run a repeat test. Many of our clients choose to run the HIV-1 PCR test earlier than the suggested 28 day incubation period and then run an additional repeat HIV PCR test after 28 days. The HIV-1 Abs is performed at the same time as the HIV-PCR test. Turnaround time is typically 2-5 business days for the HIV-1 PCR/HIV-1 Abs.  Client information will be verified to ensure they are a repeat client.

Incubation Period: The complex HIV-1 PCR test is 99% accurate at 28 days or more from a suspected contact or exposure. Some people may be detectable earlier.

Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications.  In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.
